You can create new internal Work types and link them to Task types.  This will align the descriptions of Work type items on financial documents, and Task types on timesheets.  This process eliminates the need to create both Work types and Task types with matching names.   

Once you create a new Work type, you can create and link a new Task type to this Work type without having to navigate to the Task types configuration screen.

Enabling the Automatically Create Linked Task Type for New Work Types feature

  1. Click the Settings button on the Ribbon.



    The Configuration screen appears. 

  2. Click the Global Settings item on the Configuration tree.



    The Global Settings screen appears. 

  3. Check the Automatically Create Linked Task Type for New Work Types checkbox.



  4. Click the Save button to save your changes.







Linking a Task type to an internal Work type

Ensure that you have enabled the Automatically Create Linked Task Type for New Work Types feature. 

  1. Click the Settings button on the Ribbon.



    The Configuration screen appears. 

  2. Click the Worktypes item on the Configuration tree.



    The Work Types screen appears. 

  3. Click the + (Add New) button.



    New Work Type dialog appears. 

  4. Enter a unique name for the Work type, in the Work Type field. 

    In this example, Copy Writing was entered.



    Leave the Task Type field empty to create a new Task type.

  5. Enter a category name under which this Work type will be grouped in reports, in the Category field.

    In this example, Production was selected.



  6. Add all the necessary information, and then click the Save button.

    The Link Task Type dialog appears.  This prompts you to confirm that a new linked Task type will be created with a matching name.

    Linking Task types will only apply when the Line Type is set to the default value of Normal. For any other Line Type, it will not be necessary to create a linked Task type. 

  7. To create the Task type and link it to the Work type, click the OK button.



    The new Work type record and its matching linked Task type record will be created. 

  8. Check the Internal checkbox against the relevant Work type to ensure that this Work type and Task type are active.



  9. Click the Save button to make your changes permanent.



    Ensure that the Billed checkbox for the new Task type is checked, and the TimeSheet Category value is set to Time Sheet Task.
